Old Bottles for Nautical Home Decorations

Do you have old glass bottles at home? Do not throw them away, because old glass bottles can become great nautical home decorations with some efforts. They will give a rustic look that you can see from many fishermen’s cabins, seaside shacks or a classic ship. After being cleaned, you can pair these bottles with various ocean related trinkets and create simple but charming sea related accessories.
You can use green or brown beer bottles or vinegar bottles, but do not use soda bottles that have distinctive shapes because they will lose the vintage touch. You can choose several identical bottles to be put in one spot, and other different bottles to be put on different spots to create unique look.
Here are two simple ideas to turn old glass bottles into nautical home decorations.
o You can fill some identical bottles with white sand until half their height. Put them on a table or on top of the fireplace. Put some clean seashells around them, but polish the seashells first and let them dry to add some shine.
o Alternatively, use a narrow glass bottle that has cork and transparent material. Take an old paper and scribble something on it with pencil (use your imagination about what to write on that paper). Roll the paper, put it on the bottle and close the mouth with cork to create ‘message in a bottle.’
Before you try these ideas, do not forget to clean the bottles. Use toothbrush, warm water and soap to get rid of the label, and soak the bottles in water with slightly diluted vinegar to disinfect them. Depending upon your creativity, you can turn old bottles that people throw away into nautical home decorations.
